Drug development and biotechnology are already complicated enough without every small calculation evolving into another spreadsheet, simulation, or literature search. To assist with the challenges of biologics development, we created a collection of internal tools aimed at helping us think through practical formulation and delivery problems more quickly. This includes a Gibbs-Donnan calculator and an injection force calculator. Many of these tools were inspired by our frustrations while navigating limited material, uncertain conditions, or incomplete information during biologics development. We opted to make some of these tools publicly available, as many scientists encounter similar challenges. It's important to note that these tools are not intended to replace experimental validation or specialized modeling software. Sometimes, having a better starting point, like our calculators, can greatly accelerate decision-making.

This simplified Gibbs-Donnan calculator estimates buffer composition, ionic redistribution, and pH shifts that may occur during concentration of charged protein formulations. The implementation is based on the work of Kannan et al. 2023 and is intended as a practical estimation tool for UF/DF workflows.

Fit complex fluid behavior to Carreau-Yasuda model and estimate injection force across different syringe, needle, and flow rate conditions. This tool helps scientists explore how viscosity, shear thinning behavior, and delivery parameters may influence injection force during formulation and device development.
